The vast highways of technology, competition and outsourcing demands a streneous excercise of mapping a career path. It different than the old timers, applicants now must ‘fit’ themselves into the fast lanes of a company’s culture and technological purpose. The real career success depends on a comprehensive individual plan that details specific professional goals and proven techniques for achieving them. The candidates must be able to convey their skills and their ‘fit’ into available business positions during the initial meeting with potential employers.

What happenes to the IT professionals who are immensely skilled in their work and are forced to make an about turn from it. The fear of job safety, ressessions, constant pressure to update the skills are some of the persistent problems. It may worn some tech professionals out to a point that they would consider alternative careers.

If you didn’t work in IT, where would you go? What could you do? What other careers IT people might consider?

Yoy have to find out the executable skills in your cv. Once you have skills, you can project manage anything, anywhere. Other transferable skills lie within the technology themselves.
A techie with strong ERP skills can transfer this to any company that wants to undertake an SAP implementation, even if he is not the person doing it.

What other carrer options an IT professional does have? The necessary skills which can make one productive from the day one in a different industry is a worthwhile question to be asked.
